The eruption of Mt Vesuvius in 79 AD may not have been the worst ever volcanic eruption. However this eruption has forever changed the way society looks at volcanoes. By 2003, 1,044 casts made from impressions of bodies in the ash deposits had been recovered in and around Pompeii, with the scattered bones of another 100. The remains of about 332 bodies have been found at Herculaneum .This is because of the ability for this volcano to basically wipe two towns of the map. The global climate would also have been modified due to an ash column going up into the stratosphere. It changed the entire geography of the Campania region around Pompeii. The eruption turned the Sarno River back from its course and raised the sea beach so there was no way of locating Pompeii.
